Aitor Karanka Sacked!

16th March 2017L Dickinson

johnMiddlesbrough Football Club have sacked Aitor Karanka after three and a half years at the club. Middlesbrough haven’t won in their last 10 Premier League games and are now left in the relegation zone, three points from safety with only 11 games left. Also, they are the league’s lowest scorers and got knocked out of the FA cup by Manchester City last weekend. Assistant coach, Steve Agnew, will take control of the first team.

Middlesbrough’s most dedicated fan, Mr Nicholson, gave us his opinion on the sacking: “I am very pleased that Karanka has been sacked because now, hopefully we’ll play attacking football instead of dull and boring defence. When Aitor was manger the games weren’t very entertaining. I wish that the new manager will have a lot of passion!”

Boys can dance too!

16th March 2017L Dickinson

A twelve year old boy called Junior has been bullied for dancing.

His mum has had a lot of support, moved to a new environment and most importantly just ignored them. Junior showed the bullies who’s boss by dancing with one of the world’s biggest pop stars, Justin Bieber, and is now the UK’s freestyle street dance champion.

This really shows resilience!

Morpeth school is ski bound

16th March 2017L Dickinson

skiFrom Saturday to Saturday, March 4th to 11th, thirty-five Chantry Middle School students and five members of teaching staff went on an exciting snow-filled, action-packed adventure in the French mountains.

The resort was the beautiful Les Menuires, only three hours from the French/Swiss border and the scenery was amazing! Les Menuires produces lots of photo opportunities all year round to cherish and love forever.

We interviewed Mr Hutchinson, the teacher who led this trip. Click ‘continue reading’ for the interview.

The Key Enterprise

16th March 2017L Dickinson

Overview

An enterprise activity is currently taking place at Chantry Middle School. The only class taking part in it will be 7S, who are so lucky that they have this amazing opportunity!! The activity is hosted by two companies; The Key and Leading Link.

How it works:

The competition is structured as follows:

  1. Members of Leading Link come into school and teach students how to operate a business.
  2. The students design a product.
  3. After a number of weeks, students go to The Chantry and take part in a “Dragons’ Den,” where they have to show their product to selected “Dragons”
  4. The dragons will decide how much money to give each group of students – up to £125
  5. The students will get to sell their product at the Morpeth Fair.
  6. Depending on how well the sales go, students may get to sell their product at The Chantry.

How it was organised:

Mr Johnson made contact with The Key and asked Miss Mackenzie if she would like to let her next DLE class take part in the competition. She then had a meeting with members of Leading Link and The Key, as well as with a group of students in Newminster who had already taken part.

Français Fantastique Spelling Bee

16th March 2017L Dickinson

Bonjour! In French this year we have been learning and spelling everyday words in French. We had to learn 50 words in French for the first round then our French teacher, Madame Said, would say an English word and we would have to spell it in French using the French alphabet. We were timed for a minute and we had to see how many words we would get. We (Rebecca and Amrit) got through to round 2 where we had to learn 50 more words so we have had to learn 100 words!

The second round is today! Now that we have just finished the second round, we have had a chance to talk to her. Click ‘continue reading’ to see what Madame said.

The Holi Festival

16th March 2017L Dickinson

holifestival1The Holi Festival is an annual spring festival. The celebrations start on the evening of Purnima (the day of a full moon) which, in The Gregorian Calendar, falls sometime between the end of February and the middle of March. The festival is celebrated in India and Nepal and by many Hindus around the world. It is also celebrated in a smaller way in Mauritius, Fiji, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Pakistan and the Philippines.

It is also known as ‘the festival of love’ and ‘the festival of colours’. Holi marks the end of winter and the start of spring. It is celebrated with colour, water, the exchange of sweets and the lighting of a bonfire.

Originally it commemorated good harvests and fertile land.

A Second Scottish Referendum?

16th March 2017L Dickinson

Scottish ReferendumNicola Sturgeon, the current First Minister of Scotland, has recently announced plans for a second referendum to be held some time in the next few years. Recently a number of polls have been taken. The results of the BMG Research polls that have been published say that 39% agree with having another referendum before Brexit negotiations and 49% disagree. Currently it is looking quite close for Scotland to leave the United Kingdom, especially after the choice to leave the European Union was made in June 2016, with 55% of Scots wanting to remain in the EU. This leaves doubt about Scotland remaining in the United Kingdom if a second referendum is held.

After a meeting with her cabinet, Sturgeon said that details of the vote should be decided by the Scottish parliament. There has been speculation that UK prime minister, Theresa May, will try and delay the vote until after the Brexit process is complete. However, Sturgeon said that there should be no “blocking mechanisms”. The Scottish National Party has warned Theresa May not to delay the vote, after growing belief that she will try and delay it. The deputy leader Angus Robertson insisted that the SNP was right to push for the vote as early as autumn next year, rather than seeing “the prime minister drive us over a Brexit cliff”.
