Outstanding praise at FutureChef Regional Heats

IMG_0367[1]Well-done to Lauren Jackson, 8N, for winning second place in this year’s FutureChef Regional Finals at Newcastle College.

Lauren produced a two course main meal of Haggis, Tatties and Neeps served with a Mushroom and Red Onion Cream Sauce, followed by Lemon Posset and fresh Raspberries all within ninety minutes!

She was as cool as a cucumber as she worked in the professional kitchen. Lauren came second in her group and was congratulated by the judges for the excellent choice of ingredients, flavour combinations and the stunning presentation of the food.

We are all very proud of you! Congratulations Lauren!

Anti-Bullying Week

We have had discussions in lessons across the week and also an assembly about bullying.
The theme was “Smile and compliment” and on Friday all children have been challenged to pay at least two compliments to others during the day.

Discovering Medicine Outreach Session

IMG_1220[1]A group of 30 Year 8 students spent the afternoon working with four undergraduate medical students from Newcastle University.

The medical students worked in small groups to discuss and demonstrate the role of different organs in the human body.

The session involved students using stethoscopes to measure each other’s heart rate and listen to the digestive system at work.

We are very grateful to the Newcastle University students for giving up their free time to explain more about their subject, chosen career path and university life in general.

Ellie Cape in 7W was a mascot for Newcastle United on 1st November.

She experienced walking out onto the pitch at St James’ Park with Cisse and also got the chance to have a kick around with him.

Ellie was delighted when Newcastle won the game against Liverpool 1-0!

Children in Need

Well done to everyone who took part in the Superhero non-school uniform day on Friday. We raised £419.66 for Children in Need!!

The money was raised through donations for not wearing uniform as well as a cakes and biscuits sale.

Y5 learn how to keep themselves safe

Last week we had a guest speaker, David Burn come in and talk to Year 5 about ways to keep themselves safe. Here are some testimonials from the students:

“I enjoyed it because he told us how to stay safe on the internet and how to stop a bully.”

“I know now that I must not make friends with people on the internet if I don’t know who they are.”

“I enjoyed the role-play.”

“I learnt that there is always someone who can help you if you are having a hard time.”

Year 5 Parental Questionnaire

ticksYear Five parents were recently invited to complete an on-line questionnaire about the transition process from first to middle school.  Responses indicate that parents are generally very happy with how transition is handled and welcome the many opportunities to visit the school both by themselves and their children.  Each year the results of the survey are used to improve systems in place to ensure that all children have a smooth transition to Middle School.  The results of the survey can be accessed by clicking on the link below.  Thank you to all parents who took the time to complete the questionnaire.

Refurbished Art Room

SAM_0566Pupils are enjoying the newly refurbished art room at Chantry. After a little wait for the tables, the room now has a new non-slip floor, new furniture and freshly painted walls. Everyone has remarked on how light, clean and colourful it all looks and the pupils are taking pride in looking after it.
