Chantry were invited along to Newcastle University last week to attend the final steering group meeting of Routes into Languages.  As you may be aware, the funding for Routes has unfortunately come  to an end despite a well-signed petition to the Government.

Chantry’s languages department has been involved in many Routes events over the years, such as the Spelling Bee and Festival of International Culture.  Their regular newsletters have also drawn our attention to other projects which we have participated in, including last summer’s Chinese immersion trip where Year 5s spent a week at Frensham Heights in Surrey.

At the event, Miss Said gave a presentation to the steering group to share with them all of Chantry’s MFL enrichment activities which have happened thanks to Routes.  She was joined by former students Cameron Dick and Adam Blower, now in Year 10, who were participants in Chantry’s very successful first year in the Spelling Bee.  Ailidh Dick, in Year 7, also came along : “We were the only school there and I felt really privileged to be invited along.  It was great to see how Routes provide so many great opportunities to take languages outside of the classroom.”

Thanks to everyone at Routes including project managers past and present, Nick Johnson and Sophie Stewart, for allowing Chantry to be part of their success.  Routes will be continuing in a new guise next year and we will be there every step of the way.
