Year 7 got their creative juices flowing in DLE during a workshop with local poet Matt Miller.
Pupils produced a class poem together about what makes them happy and then did some free-writing where they just let the pen go wherever their minds took them. They finished off with a performance session and learnt how to project their voices when delivering something to an audience.
Matt was very complimentary about our pupils. “Working with two separate groups of year 7 pupils at Chantry Middle School last Friday was a joy. In the time I had with each group, it was clear to see that there were inspiring levels of confidence, talent and willingness to share amongst the students, with some highly imaginative writing produced in a short space of time.”
“We went outside to practise speaking aloud and had to move further and further away from the person we were speaking to. It was really hard as we had to keep speaking louder and louder but we weren’t allowed to shout.” Mia Newcombe
“I really enjoyed the afternoon, particularly the free-writing, and I performed my poem to the class.” Ben Mason
“I learnt a lot about different styles of poetry and Matt’s visit has really inspired me to write more.” Breanne Moody.
