Last month, we had a special visitor in our languages department. Zhuo Chen is studying for an MA in Education Research and wanted to see the way in which MFL is taught to KS2.
“I really enjoyed my two days at Chantry. From the lessons I watched, I found the students to be alert and happy to get involved in all activities. The teachers used a variety of methods to motivate and engage students and brought their own personalities into the lesson. I saw a great outdoor investigative task which was well-organised – all of the pupils were enthusiastic to join in with the learning taking place.

I love the use of the interactive SmartBoards – we do not have those in our schools back home in China. The main difference I saw in teaching languages here, is that teachers combine all four skills areas in one lesson – listening, reading, writing and speaking – whereas in China we tend to focus on just one at a time. I like this way of combining all the fields as it makes it much more interesting.
I learnt a lot in my time at your school, and I really appreciate the opportunity to come in. My research project is about language teaching methods with the younger age range and I feel that Chantry is a perfect case study to use as part of my research. Thank you. All the best.” Zhuo CHEN
We wish Chen the best of luck with his future research projects.
