World Book Day

25th February 2015J Edwards

world-book-dayWorld Book Day will be celebrated across all schools on Thursday the 5th of March. Children may come into school dressed as a character from their favourite book. If you would like some ideas, children are studying the following books in English this term:

Year 6: The Hobbit

Year 7: The Machine Gunners

Year 8: Dickens

There will be up to 8 prizes in each year group.  We do hope that the children will enjoy dressing up and we’ll show some photos in the next newsletter.

Please note: Year 5 will be participating in ‘Show Racism the Red Card’ workshops that day. As Friday the 6th of March is a non-uniform day for Comic Relief, there will be no charge for World Book Day.

Maths Information Evening

24th February 2015Mrs K Shutler

Due to on-going changes in the national curriculum, we have decided to cancel the maths information evening planned for Wednesday 25th February.

Instead, we will host a SATs information evening from 6pm to 7pm on Wednesday 11th March for parents of year 6 pupils, in place of the planned literacy information evening.

During this evening we will aim to provide parents with details of the upcoming SAT tests and tips on helping their children prepare for the tests.

A maths and literacy information evening for parents of year 5 pupils will be held during the summer term to explain changes to the national curriculum.

Year 5 Mexican Day

9th February 2015Mrs K Shutler

IMG_0450On Friday 6th February, Mexico came to Chantry!

Year 5 held a special Mexican Day to celebrate all that they have been studying in various subject areas:  History and Geography, Art and Literacy..

This cross curricular unit is based around our studies of the novel by Julia Jarman, The Time Travelling Cat and the Aztec Empire.

To further expand their knowledge of all things Mexican, pupils were treated to Mexican music, food tasting, Spanish and finally an art project based around the South American quetzal bird.

The many brightly coloured ponchos, sombreros and maracas around the school helped to ensure that it was a fun-filled day.

Safer Internet Day 2015

5th February 2015J Edwards

safePolice Community Support Officer (PCSO) Matt Leonard and PCSO Simon Beavers have been into school to deliver an e-safety assembly as part of Safer Internet Day. Year 5 & 6 had their assembly on Wednesday the 4th of February and the Officers are coming back on the Tuesday 10th of February to deliver another assembly that is more age appropriate for our older students.

Safer Internet Day gets hundreds of organisations involved to help promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people. The day offers the opportunity to highlight positive uses of technology and to explore the role we all play in helping to create a better and safer online community. It calls upon young people, parents, carers, teachers, social workers, law enforcement, companies, policy makers, and wider, to join together in helping to create a better internet. Ultimately, a better internet is up to us!
