Visit to Piramal Healthcare

8th June 2015Mrs K Shutler
DSCF5156Year 7 students have been learning more about careers in the STEM sector, by visiting local pharmaceutical company Piramal Healthcare.During their afternoon visit, the students received an introductory talk about the company before visiting the Quality Control labs, trying their hand at paper chromatography and seeing how an electron microscope works.

Speaking after the visit, Glen in 7C said: “It was good because you learnt about why medicines were made the way they were. We also saw some of the different equipment used by the scientists there.”

A big thank you to Dr Paul Nott and his colleagues at Piramal for hosting our visit.

Topics will be very wide-ranging and teams can expect questions on every type of fiction, including comic strips, picture books and the classics as well as current popular novels.  There will be a Pictionary round and, as knowledge is acquired from reading, there may be a little general knowledge thrown in as well!

Rugby Report

1st June 2015Mrs K Shutler

Cheviot Final v Kings-2015-04-30-069This year has been hugely successful for the Cheviot rugby team. I have already written about the various successes this year but now the season is officially over I would to congratulate all the boys who represented the U13 school team this year. The trophy cabinet is looking extremely healthy once again after successfully winning The County Cup, The TSSSA Cup and the NSB 7’s.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents for their continued commitment and support as well as kind donations throughout the year which includes new playing kit, t-shirts and medals. The school has never been so well supported at home and away fixtures so thank you.

The school is now building its reputation nicely and I am hoping to see a high number of new players training next year. The U12’s started off really well this year but due to lack of fixtures their season ended early. As of September they will be the top team and I am already busy sorting fixtures.

If you have played for the school already or are new to rugby please come along and give it a go because the better the commitment the more fixtures we are able to fulfil.

Finally I would like to thank the Head Teachers, all office staff and all staff members who have supported me this year, your help is always appreciated.
