Lights! Camera! Action! Some of our Year 8 pupils took a trip to BBC Newcastle for a tour this week.
They saw how both the TV and radio studios work and put the theory into practise. The team performed a radio play with half taking on the roles of actors and the other half operating the sound effects.
The highlight of the day was being in the TV studio where BBC Look North is filmed. Each group had prepared a weather forecast and followed local weatherman Paul Mooney’s top tips for a successful broadcast. Oh, and just to make it extra challenging, they performed their forecasts in French! Bravo les enfants!
One of our parents (Dr Brown) works at the Wansbeck General Hospital as a Consultant Clinical Scientist, he has supported the British Science Week activities at Chantry in the past. Dr Brown has made school aware of two competitions that our students may wish to enter.
As part of National Pathology Week 2015, The Royal College of Pathology is running four competitions aimed at students and the general public. The ‘Art of Pathology’ and ‘My Favourite Pathologist’ competitions have age related categories that our students are able to enter. Please see the details below for more information about how to enter, prizes and deadlines.
‘Art of Pathology’ competition
We are looking for artwork entries that depict objects and tools used by pathologists and scientists around the world. Speaking after the visit, Ellie Cape in 7H said: “It was a really good experience as we got to do a range of experiments using equipment that isn’t available in school. I also enjoyed the tour of the site”.
A big thank you to Dr Paul Nott and his colleagues at Piramal for hosting the series of visits visits for all classes. 7C have already been on this visit but 7T, 7R & 7Y will visit Piramal on 2nd or 9th of July.
5H and 5I got the opportunity to take part in Campus Explorers.
In this activity students got the chance to take part in a virtual tour of the campus of Newcastle University through an interactive map. Throughout their journey through the campus they got the chance to play fun, educational games and activities.
Oliver Barrass from 5H liked learning about all of the different sports clubs and societies at the University and Aria Donaldson in 5I liked finding out about the wide range of courses on offer at University and was particularly interested in all of the options within the School of Creative Arts.
This activity contributes towards our Careers Education Information and Guidance (CEIAG) programme and introduces the concept of Higher Education.
5B and 5C took part Campus Explorers in April.
Year 7 got their creative juices flowing in DLE during a workshop with local poet Matt Miller.
Pupils produced a class poem together about what makes them happy and then did some free-writing where they just let the pen go wherever their minds took them. They finished off with a performance session and learnt how to project their voices when delivering something to an audience.
Matt was very complimentary about our pupils. “Working with two separate groups of year 7 pupils at Chantry Middle School last Friday was a joy. In the time I had with each group, it was clear to see that there were inspiring levels of confidence, talent and willingness to share amongst the students, with some highly imaginative writing produced in a short space of time.”
Thank you to those parents who attended the London Information Evening on Wednesday.
Please ensure the SV5 form is returned to school as soon as possible.
Do not hesitate to contact Mr Johnson, Party Leader if you have any further questions.
