Well done to everyone who took part in Sports Day activities and to Middleton House Team for getting the most points!
Twenty-one Chantry Year 7 students attended the annual Big Bang North East Fair at Northumbria University on 7th July.
The students, who successfully completed the Bronze CREST Award earlier in the year, presented their project work to professional scientists and engineers who were judging the regional heats of the prestigious National Science and Engineering Competition.
Later in the day the students took part in an interactive lecture with science educator Professor Brainstorm. They also had the opportunity to visit the open exhibition area, which included interactive chocolate welding, robot making and computer coding.
Speaking after the event, Ethan said: “We had a good day at the Big Bang Fair and enjoyed discussing our CREST Award work with the judges”.
6C & 6J took part in a Tetrahedron workshop led by Business Ambassador for Northumberland County Council, Carole Richards. Four Business Ambassadors supported the workshop. Miss Phillips, Employment and Skills Manager and Miss Gray, Sales & Marketing Graduate both represented GallifordTry, one of the UK’s leading housebuilding and construction groups. Mr Walker, Policy Officer for Public Health represented Northumberland County Council.
The workshop is part of our Carers Education, Information and Guidance (CEIAG) and Enterprise programme of study. The experience aims to develop the students understanding of the world of work and develop their teamwork, organisation and entrepreneurial skills.
Congratulations to 6C for winning the competition after creating and testing an impressive structure. 6S & 6N will take part in the Tetrahedron workshop on the morning of Wednesday the 15th of July.
This, the tenth year of the North East Book Awards, didn’t get off to a promising start when most of our Y7 participants discovered that the ceremony clashed with their trips to Belgium or Austria.
When it became clear that only two of the five shortlisted authors would be coming, we were very downcast.
However, this pair – joined by the charismatic and popular local author, Dan Smith – more than made up for the absences with their engaging personalities and lively talks. If the intense heat took its toll of the adults, it didn’t seem to dampen the enthusiasm of our young judges.
Children across all year groups enjoyed a brilliant day of football with Newcastle United Ladies and Drew Beardsley on Wednesday 8th July. Despite the rain, the children took part in a 7 aside tournament and fun penalty shoot out with the NUWFC players.
The year 5 & 6 tournament winners were the pink team and the year 7 & 8 winners were yellow team.
Individual awards were presented to Gus Singer and Dom Price for players of the tournament, Ailidh Dick and Luke Evenden for best attitude, Jess Coates for best effort and Phil Riley for best goal. Children were presented with signed shirts, signed footballs and medals.
In the afternoon, a selection of children took part in a training session with NUFC coach Drew Beardsley and he was very impressed with the talent on show and the fantastic attitude of our children here at Chantry.
All in all, a very successful day of sport. A huge thank you to both Newcastle United Ladies and Drew Beardsley for organising a great event!

Year 7 students really enjoyed their visit to one of Newcastle’s most important and exciting historic buildings!
They searched ancient passageways and chambers where Kings walked and villains were imprisoned.
New exhibits allowed our students to experience what life would’ve been like in these two astonishingly preserved medieval buildings.
Congratulations to the following students have been short-listed for the Morpeth Town Art Competition sponsored by Strutt & Parker.
