IMG_3160Joe was accompanied by 18 year old entrepreneur and designer Dhillan Bhardwaj. Dhillan has had an interesting journey which has taken him from designing t-shirts in his garage, to Number 10 Downing Street. From clothing Miley Cyrus to drinking tea with the Prime Minister, Dhillan Bhardwaj, is living his dream. In the last two years he has opened his own store, employed 30 people, and has a turnover of over £1million. His determination has helped him to succeed in his market, and his story is quite remarkable. Check out the press links below;

Finally we were fortunate enough to have Hussain in school who is most well known for his You Tube channel called ‘Hussain’s House’. In his short videos he is often seen interviewing celebrities such as Kevin Hart and Joey Essex as well as appearing on an episode of Eastenders. Hussain has also won the chance to be one of three young ambassadors to go into space in 2018, due to his hard work and commitment to inspiring young people around the world.

Our students found the message simply inspiring as the visitors shared their own personal stories about their education and how they have been gained success in such a short amount of time.

The students at Chantry said;

‘It was inspirational and fascinating because we could easily relate to them all’

‘It was really interesting and everyone was keen to listen, it was great that they showed interest in us and our thoughts.’

Y8 see ‘Suffragette’ Movie

19th October 2015Mrs K Shutler

suffragette_1shtFollowing on from the work on democracy covered in citizenship lessons, our Year 8s took a trip to the cinema to see ‘Suffragette’.

“The movie showed what women’s rights used to consist of a hundred years ago, which was basically very little.  Before I watched the film, I didn’t realise how brutal the road was for women to get the vote and how hard the Suffragettes fought for equality.”  Jacob Russan-Pritchett

“It was a very interesting film and it has made me understand the struggles of women in the past.  I am very appreciative of what the Suffragettes went through to bring us things a lot of us we take very much for granted these days.”  Cara Wray

A taste of China

30th September 2015L Dickinson

20150813_161943Nǐ hǎo!  Wǒ hén hăo!

This summer, some of our current Year 6 pupils spent an amazing week in Surrey on a Chinese immersion trip.  They stayed at Frensham Heights school and spent the mornings learning the language and the afternoon participating in cultural activities.  Parents and friends were invited down on the final day to watch a performance showcasing what went on over the week.

“We learnt Kung Fu and Tai Chi.  The instructor showed us how some moves in Tai Chi can be used as self defence.”  Joseph Jackson

“We did 3 hours of language learning a day.  It was intense but amazing as we went from not knowing any words in Mandarin to being able to have conversations with our teachers and each other.”  Lottie Glover-Stewart

“We had a go on lots of different traditional musical instruments.  I especially liked the Chinese guitar.  We also learnt a folk song which we sang on the final performance.”  Lewis Harmer
