Winter PE Notice

24th November 2015L Dickinson

Could I make a plea that all students bring warm clothing to my lessons. We will be outside as often as possible, while the weather is dry, as it is a very long winter and I expect to be inĀ the gym and shed for a long period soon.

I hate seeing children cold so please feel free to send your child in with a hat, gloves, skins, long sleeveĀ tops and tracksuit bottoms as I am more than happy for them to wear them! That way they can lose layers if they feel like they are warm.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Tetrahedron workshop for 6W & 6S

20th November 2015J Edwards

6W & 6S took part in a Tetrahedron workshop led by Business Ambassador for Northumberland County Council, Carole Richards. Two Business Ambassadors supported the workshop. Mrs Cuthbertson represented Proctor & Gamble and Miss Turner represented Kielder Water &IMG_20151120_103700016 Forest Park Development Trust. We are really pleased that Mrs Cuthbertson has been able to support the school on many occasions. It was the first time Miss Turner has supported Chantry and she was very complimentary about our students.

Ā ā€œIt’s such a pleasure to come to Chantry as everyone always wants to do so wellā€. Ā

The workshop is part of our Carers Education, Information and Guidance (CEIAG) and Enterprise programme of study. The experience aims to develop the students understanding of the world of work and develop their teamwork, organisation and entrepreneurial skills.

Congratulations to 6S for winning the competition after creating and testing an impressive structure.

Ofsted Inspection on Tuesday 17th November

16th November 2015Mrs K Shutler

ofsted-logoChantry Middle School will be inspected by Ofsted on Tuesday 17th November.

It would be much appreciated if, as requested by David Brown, the Lead Inspector, parents of children at Chantry Middle School could find time to access Parent View online and answer the 12 multi-choice questions asked.

It is necessary to register before answering the questions, but we can assure you that this is a simple and quick process. If you have completed a Parent View questionnaire before, your registration details will have been saved. Do not worry if you have forgotten your registration details, these can be easily retrieved. The inspection team will take note of the number of responses made, so the more parents that complete Parent View the better for our school.

Click to visit the Parent View website.

Great North Air Ambulance

16th November 2015L Dickinson

DSCF0137 (Large)Well done to both Chantry and Newminster Middle Schools who donated £2000 to the Great North Air Ambulance after a very successful fun run earlier in the term.

The charity was chosen after the Mayor of Morpeth, Alison Byard, visited the schools to talk to the children about her work as Mayor and why she had chosen this charity for her year in office. She has aimed to raise £5000 so she is two fifths there! Rose Akenclose & Patricia Ford from the GNAA accepted the cheque on behalf of the charity and thanked the students for their amazing hard work.

Please visit www.greatnorthairambulance.co.uk for further information about the charity.

Mobile & Tablet View Released for Online Appointment Booking

13th November 2015J Edwards

parents evening systemWe are currently in the process of preparing to send student reports for the entire school on Friday 13th of November. Parents will also receive an invite to our Parents’ Evenings which are on Thursday 19th November & Wednesday 25th November from 4.00pm to 7.00pm.

In October, we used an online booking system for parents and carers to make their appointments for Parents’ Evening. Many parents will already be familiar with this system if they have a child in year 5 or if they have older students at King Edward VI.

We’re pleased to announce the mobile and tablet friendly version of the Parents Evening System is now live, making the system even easier for parents or carers to use. There’s no app to download – the mobile friendly version will display automatically when a parent browses from a mobile or tablet.

J’adore les langues!

10th November 2015L Dickinson

20151104_120939Some of our Year 8s attended an MFL careers day at Newcastle University last week.Ā  They got the chance to try their hand at Italian and interview a selection of people whose jobs revolve around languages, including Rich.

Rich wasn’t allowed to give us his surname and we’re not sure that was his real name!Ā  He works for GCHQ which is a British intelligence and security agency that monitors communications between ā€˜people of interest’.

Rich passes on vital information to MI5 and MI6 so we actually met a real life spy. He studied French at school but decided to step out on a limb and learn a brand new language for his degree – Korean!Ā  Having had no experience or knowledge of the language before starting university, he is now fluent and uses it every day.

It is amazing to think where your current or future languages might just take you.
