They have until close of school on 11th March to sign up. An audition timetable will then be made and auditions will be held the week before the Easter holidays.

There is a list outside the music room at Chantry and in the Music block at Newminster and there are also others around school.

J’adore le français

29th February 2016Mrs K Shutler

20160226_122031Félicitations to Jac Caygill, Ailidh Dick and Finley Camille in Year 7 who were the four winners of the French Spelling Bee Round Two.

These pupils successfully spelt the most French words – using the French alphabet – from a list of 100 in one minute.  They move onto the regional heat of the competition at Newcastle University in April where they will face competitors from schools all over the North-East.

In previous years, we have had pupils from Chantry make it through to the Nationals in Cambridge so fingers crossed we can repeat that success.

Ailidh set another school record by spelling an amazing 15 words correctly.  Bravo to her and all of our competitors who took part this year.

Congratulations to Bombay Ducks!

26th February 2016J Edwards

7S and 7H took part in an enterprise workshop on Friday morning. Students had the opportunity to work with Carole Richards, Business Ambassador for Northumberland County Council. The students also worked with two other Business Ambassadors that volunteered to take part in the session. Debra Phillips from Galliford Try has supported enterprise sessions at Chantry before and hopes to work with us to give some students the opportunity to visit the construction site where Galliford Try are currently building new homes in Morpeth. Thanks also to Tony Kirsop who manages Social Enterprise Northumberland.

Students found out about the skills and attributes of a variety of roles within a company and calculated the profit for their group using their own records of expenditure and revenue of their own company. The students quickly realised the need for quality control in terms of their production and developed their negotiating skills when buying and selling stock.
Well done to “Bombay Ducks” that were the overall winners. Members of the winning team were:Bombay

  • Billy Rowe (7S)

Year 8 Boys’ Rugby Success

12th February 2016L Dickinson

MitreHurricane1The Year 8 boys played for the Cheviot rugby team on Thursday 11th February in the County Cup Semi Final. The game was away to Dame Allans who the team had narrowly lost to earlier in the year. Finally seeing a little bit of sunshine the players were hoping for some running rugby and from the first minute that is exactly what we had.

Dame Allans started the game on the back foot with Cheviot scoring early to take a 7-0 lead but playing some tough running rugby and using the sloped pitch to their advantage Dame Allans ran in 3 unanswered tries to lead 17-7 at the half time whistle.
Knowing the final was at stake the Cheviot players gathered themselves and played non-stop, hard hitting, hard running rugby for the next 30 minutes. Scoring a further 5 tries and not allowing Dame Allans to cross the line once – A truly incredible effort.
The boys now play in the final of the County Cup at Kingston Park on Thursday 3rd March, Kick Off 4.15pm.
