Sky mentor Katie Storie visited Chantry on Thursday 17th March to work with our sports leaders. Katie also did a whole school assembly where she shared with Chantry pupils her personal journey to representing her country.
Year 7 and 8 pupils took a trip to the Theatre Royal last week to see the dramatic stage production of William Goldingâs Lord of the Flies.
âI enjoyed the experience of the theatre more than seeing a film at the cinema. The actors showed passion and emotion throughout the show.  The set was amazing and so realistic. Overall, I give the performance 10/10.â Laurence M
âI thought the trip was amazing. The acting was so realistic. So realistic that it was in fact actually scary!â Christian G
âI really enjoyed the show â it was an amazing experience. I would definitely watch it all over again. My favourite parts were the hunting scenes as the actors performed them in slow motion and the lighting effects made the atmosphere fantastic. It is one of the best plays I have ever seen and I will be talking about it for a long time to come.â Erin B

Last Wednesday, twelve students from Chantry, Newminster and King Edwards, attended the North East Teen Book Award ceremony at The Centre for Life in Newcastle. All were really looking forward to meeting the authors of the six books that theyâve been studying since October. Some were rather nervous because they would shortly be presenting one of the authors to an audience of about five hundred peers and adults!
The Teen Book Award is aimed at Y10 students and presents a considerable challenge for Key Stage 3 in terms of the number of books to be read, their themes and complexity. Itâs also fair to say that, sometimes, the subject matter can be controversial. Itâs greatly to the credit of our younger students that theyâre so keen to give it a go!

Chantry had a few international visitors this week. Fatima, from Saudi Arabia, and Zhambyl, from Kazakhstan, are both studying for an MA at Newcastle University and spent a few days with us in school to compare our education system with their own.
Fatima joined Year 6 to talk about her culture and the Al-Janadriyah Festival which celebrates the countryâs heritage.
âIt was great to have Fatima in school. She had a lot to say about Saudi Arabia and it was all very interesting.â  Rebecca W
âI enjoyed hearing about the traditional dress in Fatimaâs country. I didnât know that it is against the law for women to walk around outside without a head covering but if they are in their own homes, they donât have to wear it.â Lottie G-S

Happy New Year!
February saw the start of the Chinese New Year and this year is the Year of the Monkey. To celebrate, members of the Confucius Institute at Newcastle University came in to work with some Year 8s during DLE.
They got the chance to do a Kung Fu and Tai Chi taster session as well as trying their hand at some Chinese calligraphy. Thanks to He Qi and Vincent for sharing their expertise.
Thank you! Xiè xiè. 谢谢
