Skipping and Netball Success

3rd May 2016L Dickinson

2Skipping Competition

Chantry Y5 pupils took part in a Skipping competition on Friday 18th March at Morpeth Leisure centre. We won 4 bronze, 1 silver and 5 gold events.

Chantry was the only school to do a Skip Dance which was created and choreographed by Chantry Y8 girls, Charlotte, Alexandra, Isabel and Lauren.

We had a great morning enjoyed by all.

3Chantry Girls win the U13 Netball League

The girls have had an amazing season only losing one match. I have been really pleased with their regular commitment to netball, even giving up their own time to coach younger pupils in the school.

Well done girls I’m really proud of you.

Mrs L. Grundy

4More Netball Success!

Chantry A & B team played in the School Games Area Netball competition at Richard Coates Middle School on Monday 25th April. Both teams battled against the weather conditions and the opposition to win both the A & B team competitions. Chantry A team will go on to represent Morpeth and Ponteland in the School Games Finals in June 2016.

The Chantry and Newminster ensembles were joined by the King Edward VI School Community Jazz Band on Wednesday 27th April to perform in a Musical Ensemble Evening.

There were performances from the joint middle schools Jazz Band, Ceilidh Band, Samba Band, Guitar Ensembles and Steel Pan Bands along with a guest performance from the KEVI Community Jazz Band with a finale of the Joint Three Rivers Jazz Band playing ‘Rolling in the Deep’.

The night was a fantastic showcase of the wonderful musicians who are pupils at our Three Rivers Schools and members of the Morpeth community.

Well done to all performers and thank you to the instrumental tutors for all of their hard work.

Au Revoir Naomi

27th April 2016L Dickinson

Picture1 (2)The MFL department at Chantry regularly says ‘Bonjour’ to university students who have an interest in language teaching.  Naomi Jones is in the last few months of her French, Spanish and Business degree at Newcastle University, and since September has been a welcome visitor working as a classroom assistant, as well as helping out in numerous activities such as the Spelling Bee.  Her time at Chantry has come to an end and we wish to say a big thank you to her for being part of our department this year.  We wish her all the best with her exams and future endeavours.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Chantry and have felt really inspired by the different methods of teaching I saw. As well as helping out in the MFL department, I was also given the opportunity to observe other lessons such as Science which gave me a great overall view of teaching at the school. I was made to feel so welcome during my time at Chantry and am especially grateful to Miss Said, Mrs Brown and Mr Johnson for all of their support. Au revoir Chantry.”

Save Routes into Languages

26th April 2016L Dickinson

As an MFL teacher, I am constantly looking for opportunities to enrich pupils’ language learning and their enjoyment in the subject.  I would like to give thanks to Routes into Languages who have enabled me to do so during my time here.  They have opened many doors for students at Chantry to take their learning beyond the classroom walls and have created memories, successes and aspirations that will endure.

Unfortunately, the funding for Routes is due to stop later this year and I am hoping you can spare a few minutes of your time to sign the online petition in support of the programme’s continuance.  Please help to save Routes into Language so that our future pupils can benefit just as much as our past students have.  https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/111879

Thank you!  Merci! Danke! iGracias!

Ich spreche Deutsche

18th April 2016L Dickinson

croc photoYear 5s had a special visit from Frau Weare last week and her good friend Klaus the Krokodil.  They had a one-off German lesson as a taste of things to come when they reach Year 7 and pick up a second foreign language in addition to their French.

“I really enjoyed trying out German.  We played a lot of games and watched a short cartoon that is popular with little children in Germany.”  Poppy

“I am looking forward to learning German in a couple of years.  It is completely different to French so I think it will be quite a challenge.”  Joe

Some students recently entered the Young Writers’ Spine-Chiller mini saga competition and we are delighted to announce that 47 of our students’ stories were successful. They now have the opportunity to be published within a special anthology, named Spine-Chillers – The Graveyard Shift.

The competition receives thousands of stories from around the UK, making this a great achievement!

Each term the top 5 writers earn the prize of a Kindle Fire HD, with school prizes going from £1,000 for first place, £500 for second place and £250 for third place. The final winners are chosen once all books from the competition have been published.
