‘We have long awaited Amy’s next few chapter of On The Run, here they are.’
Chapter 3
When I walked into my new home, all the kids stared at me, maybe it was because I haven’t had a bath in a couple of months, or the fact I had a grubby cat in my arms. âRight, Iâd like you to all meet⌠Iâm sorry what was your name again?â the adoption lady asked. I was completely dumbstruck. I had no name, except for beast. The only reason my brother was named was because when I was born there couldnât be two beasts. âUmmâŚâ  I thought long and hard about what I could be called. I remember me and Dan thinking of a good name for me when I grew up.  âMy name is Calum, Calum Goodman.â I replied. That was my last name, so I was usually Beast Goodman. âOk, Calum, Iâd like you to meet Camilla, she is the owner of Keiki home for Kids.â âLovely to meet you.â the frail, elderly women said in a soft tone, âWhy donât we get a cuppa, so I can get to know you?â We left Keiki home, with Camilla on her dainty mobility scooter. I was actually quite surprised when I found I couldnât keep up with the scooter.  âHow fast does this thing go?â I asked, panting. âIâm not sure, but it is quite fast!â Luckily the cafe was only around the corner. âWould you like something to eat Calum?â âYes!â I replied instantly. I havenât had anything for two or three days. âOoh youâre eager.â she chuckled. We popped on the seats closest to the window. âI have one very important question for you, why does your adoption paper have no parent or guardian signature on it?â âI set myself up for adoption, you see my parents, wellâŚâ âItâs alright if you donât want to tell me, darling.â she said in that same loving, soft tone. âNo, I need to, I havenât told anyone.â I encouraged myself. âMy parents⌠abused me. They neglected me. I always felt as if my brother was the only person who loved me, and my Grandma.â
âMy! No wonder you set yourself up for adoption!â Camilla squealed. âMy family didnât put the good into Goodman.â Camilla looked at me intently. âIs that your last name, by any chance?â Camilla questioned. We were then interrupted by a waitress.âI have the Chicken and Vegetable soup.â âOh, that’s for me, thank you dear.â Camilla stated. âThen this must be yours.â The waitress placed a piping hot plate in front of me, a nice baguette filled with ham and cheese. âWatch out, the food will be hot!â the waitress warned, then walked off. I didnât listen to a word she said, I scoffed that meal down like an animal. âGoing back to our conversationâŚâ I said, âMy last name is Goodman.â âAnd what are your parents names.â The thoughts of my parents disturbed me. âHarry and Val. Why are you asking?â Camilla looked shocked. âCalum, my grandson!â she wailed, âIs that really you!â I was shell shocked. She was the Grandma I loved when I was young, I donât know how I didnât recognise her! When I was little, me and Dan loved going to Granâs house. She wouldnât swear and beat us. Sheâd give us food, and sometimes sweets! Camillaâs eyes welled up with an oceans worth of tears, and so did mine.
Chapter 4
We were back at Keiki home, greeted by Tide.âHey girl, you look nice.â Her fur didnât look dirty at all, not one speck of mud was on her and Tides fur wasnât tatty with big lumps of hair. She actually felt smooth. âHow did this happen?â âThey obviously took very good care of Tide!â Grandma responded We walked into the home and everyone was all over Tide. She was the star of Keiki Home. âEveryone, Iâd like you to meet my grandson, Calum.â Â Now, everyone huddled around me, maybe it was that I had been holding a manky cat. I was shown to my dorm room by Grandma Camilla. The furniture looked all specially picked out. It was very modern with two single beds each side of the room with wardrobes at the bottom. âWhoâs my roommate?â I asked. âYou donât have one yet.â Camilla replied, âBut I am determined to find Daniel.â âWhy did you go for Calum as your name?â she continued. âMe and Dan had always discussed running away, so we had to think of a name for me because Dan didnât want to call me beast.â âWell, I best leave you to get comfy.â âThank you, gran.â I said with a slight smile on my face. I placed my bags down and closed my curtains, blocking the dim winter sun. Iâm glad that I found a place to live. I wouldnât be able to bear another sub zero winter, no, not again. I lay on my bed and found myself drifting off to sleep.
Chapter 5
âDude!â I heard someone shout. âDude, wake up!â I opened my eyes and right in front of me was Dan. I ran and gave him a hug. âHey, what was that for, did I do something bad?!â Dan said in a sarcastic tone. âWhere are we?â I asked
Before my brother could even answer, I was in my own bedroom, I was back home! âWhat’s the matter?â âWhy am I back home?â âYouâve always been home, I canât even remember the last time we saw daylight!â Dan said. It suddenly dawned on me that I had been dreaming. âNo!â I screeched. âSHUT UP BEAST!â I heard my dad’s voice scream. âSo we never ran away?â I continued whispering. âI wish!â Dan exclaimed. Loud footsteps came to the door with a shadowy figure.
âI said shut it both of you!â Harry screamed. âI want you in the lounge immediately!â âSir, yes, sir!â Dan giggled as if he was in the army. âNOW!â My Dad went over to my brother, but I had enough. Iâm not treated like most kids are, and that is the one thing that made me so happy to run away, but my dream is all gone. I live in a nightmare. I just want my parents to love me. I got up and shouted louder than before; Iâd never shouted at him before. Dan looked at me as if I was a different person. Â My Dad went in for argument! âRun Dan!â I shouted. âYou come as well!â We ran through the house to the front door, but the door wouldnât budge open. âGet the keys!â When Dan span around, there was my mother. âWhat are you doing.â she asked. âOh nothing, just, you know, checking the door is locked so we donât get out.â Dan said as an excuse. âWow, you beasts are finally learning.â my Mum said and then walked away. âQuickly get the keys.â Â Dan grabbed the keys from under the mat. âWeâre free!â Dan shouted. âOh no you’re not!â I heard Harry say. âGo Dan! Leave without me!â âI canât! I wonât leave you here to suffer!â âPlease Dan, we both canât leave, one of us will get caught, you go!â I pleaded. My brother knew exactly what to do, he grabbed the keys and his backpack whilst I held off my dad. I tried to go with Dan but then a piece of rope was slung across my neck. My parents always did that. âNo!â Dan screamed as he ran away. âGo, Iâve already felt freedom.â I croaked. I could slowly feel myself wither away…
