BB2The standard of work was very high and we’re pleased to confirm that all of the students’ project work has been selected for exhibition at the regional Big Bang Science Fair in July.

Well done to all of the students involved and a big thank you to everyone who supported the event.

A visit from author Janis Mackay

30th March 2015Mrs K Shutler

IMG_2255On Thursday afternoon, students in Years 5 and 6 were treated to an hour of interactive fun with Scottish author, Janis Mackay.

Janis used her story telling and acting skills to transport the students to their own imaginary worlds and inspire them to write time travel adventures of their very own.

Our students were keen to get their hands on signed copies of her latest series, the first of which – The Accidental Time Traveller – won the Scottish Children’s Book Award for younger readers. This series is full of funny misunderstandings and gripping action, perfect for children up to 11 years reading in the yellow band (book level 4 – 4.9)

Janis is currently visiting schools in the region as part of the forthcoming Hexham Book Festival

7W & 7S Enterprise

27th February 2015J Edwards

7S and 7W took part in an enterprise workshop on Friday morning. Students had the opportunity to work with Carole Richards, Business Ambassador for Northumberland County Council. The students also worked with six other Business Ambassadors that volunteered to take part in the session.

We were delighted to find out that two of the Ambassadors were parents of students that currently go to Chantry Middle School; Mr Crumplin from BRIC and Mrs Cuthbertson from Proctor & Gamble (P&G). The other four Business Ambassadors were both from NCC, Sainsbury’s, Active Northumberland and Tyne Met College.

Students found out about the skills and attributes of a variety of roles within a company and calculated the profit for their group using their own records of expenditure and revenue of their own company. The students quickly realised the need for quality control in terms of their production and developed their negotiating skills when buying and selling stock.

Well done to “Duck N Stool Ducks” from 7W that were the overall winners. Members of the winning team were:7W enterprise winners
