A starring turn

peter panFollowing on from his lead role in ‘We Will Rock You’ earlier this year, Year 8’s Lucas Jones spent his summer starring as John Darling in Whitley Bay Play House’s rendition of ‘Peter Pan’.  Lucas attended auditions for the show back in May along with over 130 other children and successfully won the role.

Although the story of Peter Pan is a much loved classic, the show featured original songs and stunning dance routines.

Morpeth Art Competition

art2Pupils and parents were invited to a lovely event at Strutt and Parker Estate agents in Morpeth on Wednesday 8th July to view the fantastic array of short-listed Morpeth paintings.

The winner and runners up were awarded with Amazon vouchers from the Estate Agents and Highly Commended students received vouchers from the Cheviot.

Thank you again to Strutt and Parker for hosting such an event and for the printmaking equipment donated to the schools.

Big Bang North East Fair

TCJUOOiRWUAAsHuCwenty-one Chantry Year 7 students attended the annual Big Bang North East Fair at Northumbria University on 7th July.

The students, who successfully completed the Bronze CREST Award earlier in the year, presented their project work to professional scientists and engineers who were judging the regional heats of the prestigious National Science and Engineering Competition.

Later in the day the students took part in an interactive lecture with science educator Professor Brainstorm. They also had the opportunity to visit the open exhibition area, which included interactive chocolate welding, robot making and computer coding.

Speaking after the event, Ethan said: “We had a good day at the Big Bang Fair and enjoyed discussing our CREST Award work with the judges”.

10th Anniversary of The North East Book Awards

IMG_2989This, the tenth year of the North East Book Awards, didn’t get off to a promising start when most of our Y7 participants discovered that the ceremony clashed with their trips to Belgium or Austria.

When it became clear that only two of the five shortlisted authors would be coming, we were very downcast.

However, this pair – joined by the charismatic and popular local author, Dan Smith – more than made up for the absences with their engaging personalities and lively talks. If the intense heat took its toll of the adults, it didn’t seem to dampen the enthusiasm of our young judges.
