Frankie Fundraiser

19th January 2016L Dickinson

IMG_2378Last week many of our children took part in a fundraising event to help raise money for Frankie Sherwood, a 2 year old boy who suffers with cancer. Frankie is the mascot for Newcastle United Ladies Team.

Players from Newcastle United Ladies Team spent the morning playing football with groups of children from both Chantry and Newminster. Frankie joined in with various groups and enjoyed a kick around with players and children. Many of our children and the adults involved said how much they’d enjoyed the session and being able to meet Frankie. Voluntary donations were very generous and will be put to good use.

Newcastle United players and development manager were very impressed with the attitudes of all children and their level of skill.

Poppy Pritchard (Year 5) was spotted by Newcastle’s development manager and will be asked to attend Newcastle academy. Well done Poppy! A fantastic achievement.

Well done to all children who participated and a very big Thank you to NUWFC for a brilliant morning.

Read more about Frankie here.

The first round of the French Spelling Bee took place this week.  Pupils in 7C and 7H learnt a bank of 50 words off by heart and had to spell many as they could using the French alphabet in 1 minute.

Congratulations to Izzy Walsh, Jac Caygill, Laurence Marley, Aidlih Dick, Finley Camille, Kirsten Woodfine-Rendles, Olivia Taylor and Josh Steele who all go through the second round in February.

A special mention to Aidlih who succeeded in spelling ten words correctly – this is the highest ever score in the first round!  Well done Aidlih on setting a new school record, or should we say, très bien!

IMG_2058A huge well done to George and Ella who represented our school at the Local Final of this year’s Future Chef competition at Gateshead college yesterday.

The professional chef judges were extremely impressed with both Ella and George’s efforts and said they both worked extremely well under pressure to create their amazing meals.

George made salmon teriyaki with jasmine rice cubes and an Asian salad followed by raspberry and mascapone mille feuille.

Ella made chicken supreme with goose fat roasted winter roots followed by apple, cranberry and cinnamon syllabub macadamia nut crumble.

Ella and George competed against pupils from 4 other schools and we are delighted to announce that Ella won!  Ella will go on to represent Northumberland and Newcastle at the Regional Final in February! Good Luck Ella!
