tomboySome of our Year 8 linguists took a trip to the Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle for a French film day this week.  The movie was 2011’s Tomboy which deals with some thought-provoking issues.

“It was a great experience to see a foreign film on the big screen and it helped improve my French vocabulary.”  Lauren Cummings

“The film tackled a very challenging subject of a girl pretending to be a boy.  The scenario was really well thought out and the use of mirrors in different scenes highlighted how the main character’s appearance was something which tormented her.”  Jacob Russan-Pritchett

“I learnt a few new bits of vocab which will come in useful.  The whole concept was unusual and different and you didn’t know what was coming next.”  Oli Herford

“I really enjoyed it and thought it was rather heart-warming.  I think it is important to highlight issues which can affect us, particularly at our age, and we shouldn’t shy away from such topics.  The workshops after the film were challenging in terms of the French language we used.  I would recommend this film to anyone who likes movies and … French!”  Grace Coffey

“This was my first foreign film so I enjoyed the whole experience. “  Stephanie Shek

“The film was very interesting and I understood quite a lot of what was going on without having to read the subtitles.  Although it wasn’t my type of film, the subject matter was eye-opening and I really enjoyed it.”  Rebekah Hudson

“I really liked seeing a foreign film and it was a great chance to learn some new French.  The subject matter was gripping and left me with lots questions at the end.”  Megan Bell
