Our 7th Annual Lit Quiz will be held at Chantry on the afternoon of Friday, May 19th, starting at 1:30pm and finishing by 4:15pm.

This literary competition gives children who’ve always loved to read a chance to display their knowledge and win prizes for it!

Topics will be very wide-ranging and teams can expect questions on every type of fiction, including comic strips, picture books and the classics as well as current popular novels. There will be a Pictionary round and, as knowledge is acquired from reading, there may be a little general knowledge thrown in as well!

There will be five rounds of themed questions to be answered in teams of four students. Between the rounds there will be opportunities for individual prizes to be won. The rules will be similar to those of the national Kids’ Lit Quiz competition.

Prizes include book tokens to the value of £8, books of the winners’ choice taken from a wide selection on display and £2 coins.

Nine schools from Northumberland, Durham and Tyne and Wear are participating this year and Newminster and Chantry will each be entering up to four teams.

If your child is in Years 6, 7 or 8 and keen to take part, they should tell Mrs Inverarity as soon as possible. As a rough guide, students are likely to enjoy the Quiz if their ZPD is greater than 7.0. They may also have been Word Millionaires!

Teams will be filled on a “first come, first served basis” so please give Mrs Inverarity the names of your team members as soon as you have them!

Please note that, as this is a team event, participants are expected to stay until the end of the contest.
