On Friday 16th March, Chantry is having a non school uniform day for the Easter Extravaganza.
To have the privilege of not coming in school uniform for a day, students will need to bring in any type of chocolate for the raffle.
Unusually, the Easter Extravaganza will be held in two weeks time – on Thursday 29th March. This is because Friday 23rd March is the Whole School Enterprise Day and the hall will be in use all that day. All the money raised will go towards school equipment and fun days at school.

Scruffts is a competition that is a spin-off from Crufts, the most famous dog show in the world. As you can probably guess from its name, Scruffts is a competition for dogs of mixed breed which helps strengthen the bond between owner and dog.
Since 2000 Scruffts has become very well known and people come from all over the world to compete. Because dogs of mixed breed are often born by accident and a lot more of them are found in kennels rather than homes, all the money people pay to compete and spectate goes to Kennel Club Charitable Trust.
The competition has four main titles: “ Most Handsome Dog”, “Prettiest Female Dog”, “Child’s Best Friend”, “Best Cross Breed Rescue” and “Golden Oldie”.
In the competition for Child’s Best Friend, the dog is walked out to be judged with its child owner. For the Best Cross Breed Rescue, the dog that has the most heartwarming rescue story is chosen.
This year’s overall winner is a five-year-old Maltese Shih Tzu cross called Jack who beat 2,500 other competitors to be voted the 2018 champion of Scruffts!
Jack has helped his owner, 16 year old Josie, overcome her anxiety and build her confidence and this touched the heart of the celebrity judge.

The Greatest showman is a new film released on 26th December 2017 in cinemas all over the U.K. Millions of people are interested and enjoyed the movie around the world. Almost wherever you go somebody will be humming away to one of their unique and inspiring songs. With the motion picture featuring Hugh Jackman, Zendaya and Zac Efron, people won’t be forgetting these songs in a hurry!
Students here at Chantry call it ‘A sensational masterpiece!’, ‘The best movie of 2017’ and ‘ different to any other musical’ but even things this good get some negative comments and harsh critics like, ‘empty and utterly forgettable’.
Though this modern sensation is the movie craze of the moment, it is actually based on a true story. Inspired by P T Barnum, The Greatest Showman is an original musical that celebrates show business and tells the story of rags to riches person who goes from nothing to create a worldwide phenomenon. The movie also highlights difference and what makes you, you.
In the mid 1800’s anybody of a different race or religion to the majority and people who just looked very different were disrespected
and prevented from doing some jobs. P.T Barnum stopped that and started the ‘circus’. It was loved and hated by many people.
In 1868 the Barnum’s museum burned down and many were injured but in 1871 it began to travel around the country in a big circus tent and that was the start of the ‘show business’.

Professor Stephen William Hawking, passed on in his sleep in his Cambridge home (England).
Hawking was born on 8th January 1942 in Oxfordshire, England, and went to his first school in St. Albans, 20 miles north of London. He grew up and, eventually, he began his undergraduate years at a University in Oxford in 1959. For his first few months, he felt bored and lonely. He also stated that he found his academic work “Ridiculously Easy.”
In his three years in Oxford, he would only manage to do an unimpressive 1,000 hours of studying. This made him very anxious and restless because, his University Finals were coming up. The night before the Exams, he slept very poorly due to stress. His eventual results were a border-line between first and second class honours. He said that if he was given a first class honour, that he’d go to Cambridge but if he got a second class, he’d stay at Oxford. The Oxford University presented him with a first class honour in natural science, and he began his graduate work.
During his graduation years, at age 21, he was diagnosed with ALS: a form of motor neuron disease, leaving him almost entirely paralysed. The doctors who diagnosed him, told Hawking that he had two or three years to live. But, amazingly, he surpassed this by 55 whole years. He went on to make theories about how the universe was made by, “The Big Bang,” and also, possibly one of his most well known theories, on black holes.
He began writing many books alongside various authors and having movies made for him. He also had many cameos in various shows, such as, ‘The Simpsons’ and ‘The Big Bang Theory’. He was awarded many awards, and was visited by many celebrities from all over the Earth; so he was of high importance to the world.
Sadly, Hawking passed away at the age of 76 Tuesday morning in his Cambridge home. He may have passed, but his ideas and legends will live on. He has revolutionised the way we look at the earth and universe, and his ideas will continue to benefit the world we live in, and hopefully, the rest of time.
