Congratulations to the Magistrates Court Mock trial team who won the Local Heat of the competition at North Tyneside Magistrates Court in North Shields on Saturday 12th March. They were magnificent at prosecuting and defending in the case of Charlie Smith who had allegedly assaulted Andy Manning in Castletown.
The team were competing against Newminster, Alnwick Duke’s, Seaton Sluice, Thomas More, Longbenton, Cramlington Learning Village & Whitley Bay
We are eternally grateful to Kate & Carolyn, two local magistrates who supported us through the competition.
They will now take part in the Regional Final in May – good luck!
Well done to everyone who took part and Miss Gilberg and all her wonderful tuition.
Sky mentor Katie Storie visited Chantry on Thursday 17th March to work with our sports leaders. Katie also did a whole school assembly where she shared with Chantry pupils her personal journey to representing her country.
Year 7 and 8 pupils took a trip to the Theatre Royal last week to see the dramatic stage production of William Golding’s Lord of the Flies.
“I enjoyed the experience of the theatre more than seeing a film at the cinema. The actors showed passion and emotion throughout the show. The set was amazing and so realistic. Overall, I give the performance 10/10.” Laurence M
“I thought the trip was amazing. The acting was so realistic. So realistic that it was in fact actually scary!” Christian G
“I really enjoyed the show – it was an amazing experience. I would definitely watch it all over again. My favourite parts were the hunting scenes as the actors performed them in slow motion and the lighting effects made the atmosphere fantastic. It is one of the best plays I have ever seen and I will be talking about it for a long time to come.” Erin B

Some of our students are off to Les Menuires, France this week.
Follow their adventures here:
Last Wednesday, twelve students from Chantry, Newminster and King Edwards, attended the North East Teen Book Award ceremony at The Centre for Life in Newcastle. All were really looking forward to meeting the authors of the six books that they’ve been studying since October. Some were rather nervous because they would shortly be presenting one of the authors to an audience of about five hundred peers and adults!
The Teen Book Award is aimed at Y10 students and presents a considerable challenge for Key Stage 3 in terms of the number of books to be read, their themes and complexity. It’s also fair to say that, sometimes, the subject matter can be controversial. It’s greatly to the credit of our younger students that they’re so keen to give it a go!

1 Before NETBA: Before the North East Teenage Book Awards (NETBA) at the Centre for Life in Newcastle, some very funny things happened when we had gone for pizza with Mr Shields.
We asked Grace Coffey to recount what had happened:
“Well, Mr Shields asked me to go and get his salad. Since we were at Pizza Hut, to get salad you go around the salad bar. Mr Shields was too lazy to get up so he sent me to get his. Little did he know that he was expected to like spicy things. This is because when I was at the salad bar I went around and put everything in the bowl until it was spilling out. I then added lots and lots of hot sauce. I took it back to our table before realizing that I forgot three VERY important things: Coleslaw, jalapeños and extra hot sauce! I took it back to the salad bar and tipped three very large spoonfuls of jalapeños on top. Then I added coleslaw. Then came the extra hot sauce. I got the bottle and tipped it upside down until it was empty. Much to my disappointment it was all over my hands. I took it back to Mr Shields with it dripping down my arms. I then said, ‘I hope you like your starter!’ Unfortunately, Mr Shields liked hot things! Soon after this, my friend Ellie tasted a jalapeño thinking it was a pepper! I can’t imagine what the staff thought of us.”
