On Friday 9th of March, students at Chantry Middle School celebrated Science Week; here’s a little overview of what they got up to:
Year 5
The Year 5s went to the Centre for Life; they went into the Dino Jaws exhibition and also experienced the 4D motion ride. When they were on the 4D motion ride they got given 3D glasses and they got sprayed with water and drizzled with fake snow. This ride makes you feel like you are actually there. They got to go in the Curiosity Zone and also they did some science experiments, and watched a live theatre show all about science. It was a fantastic experience for all involved!
Year 6
The Year 6s stayed at school to do some exciting workshops. Technology Tom came in to see all Year 6s across Chantry and Newminster. He did fun experiments what included the audience and teachers. In one of the sessions, they designed bags out of vinyl and a heat press. Last year, marianne biologists came in but this year they had a creepy crawly workshop with snakes and tarantulas for students to hold. They had lots of fun, with lots of laughs.
Year 7
The Year 7s went to Newcastle University to experience what it is like. Most of their workshops were to do with engineering; they went on a tour of the campus. I think the teachers favourite building was the library because it was so quiet; the library has three floors to do with how quiet you have to be. On one of the floors was a cafe that sold delicious paninis. We did a workshop on archeology from WWI which was very interesting.
Year 8
The Year 8s stayed at school. They did fingerprint workshops and detective workshops. They did a electromagnetics workshop as well- so everyone got to experience something different!
