On 1st March a group of Year 5 skippers went down to the Morpeth Leisure Centre to compete in the 10th annual Skipping Competition. The competition consisted of lots of different categories for the Year 5s to compete in. First, there was a big group warm up when all the skippers got on the floor and had to skip along to a song using only a particular type of skipping technique that had been demonstrated.
After this, the category competitions began. The first competition was ‘Keep the kettle boiling’. This was very fast paced and a lot of fun. The other events included:
- ‘Criss cross’
- ‘Butterfly’
- ‘Face to face’
- ‘Double bounce’
- ‘Speed bounce’
- ‘Side swing’
- ‘Hop step’
- ‘The pretzel’

Once we had finished those categories we moved on to the final event: ‘The skip dance’. The Chantry team decided to perform first, they performed to the song ‘Can’t stop the feeling!’ It was a great dance that was very exhilarating and exciting,Chantry were followed by Richard Coates and then Newminster. All of the dances were great and it would be hard to decide the winner!
The competition ended with an awards ceremony, overall chantry won a massive amount of medals, 2 Golds,5 Silvers and 2 Bronze. They did amazing! It was a very tense moment when it came to announcing the winner of the skip dance! After a lot of nerves, the result came out… Chantry won, it was great!
