On Friday 11th March 2016, Schools across Britain are celebrating British science day by doing different science experiments.
Here in Chantry all year groups are doing different experiments:
- Year 5 are going to the Centre for life to do the science of sound workshop!
- Year 6 are making bags and doing a marble workshop. They will also be having some creepy crawly visitors!
- Year 7 are going to Newcastle University for some Crime scene investigation!
- Year 8 are having some visitors such as: a civil engineer; a research chemist; a marine engineer; a mechanical engineer; and some students from the High School!
I asked some of the students and staff at Chantry if they enjoy British science day. Here are their responses:
“I like science day because there are lots of things to do and it’s a fun day.” Ellen (Year 8).
“It’s a good opportunity for the students to get a taste of different aspects of science and technology, for example year 6 are doing marble work so they will benefit a lot in future.” Mr Stoker (Technology teacher).
“I really like it because you get to try new things and last year we had the creepy crawlies in, which was really cool and it’s just really fun!” Eve (Year 8).
Overall, I think British science and technology days have been amazing. They give us an opportunity to learn more about science and technology. It is also introducing us to things we don’t normally do.
