Pupils from Newminster and Chantry reflected upon what they had learnt on their Photography trip to Beamish.
“We enjoyed dressing up in clothing from the 19th Century and and taking part in many fun activities…comparing old photos from the 1900s, taking part in the real life history and taking photos of each other in different locations.
We were amazed to see the variety of photos that were taken in the past – cricketers, miners, elderly couples, soldiers, business men and families. Pin hole cameras were massive and really hard to carry around with you.
The pictures came out in black and white and you had to stay still for a few minutes before the picture was taken which made it hard to smile. In the past it cost a lot of money but now you just press a button without costing anything. Ipad cameras only take a few seconds to take the photo!”
They felt like ‘it was going back in time, posing as if from the 19th Century’ and ‘loved taking the photos and seeing how the ipads could create a sepia effect’.
The sweet shop was also very popular….
