Scruffts is a competition that is a spin-off from Crufts, the most famous dog show in the world. As you can probably guess from its name, Scruffts is a competition for dogs of mixed breed which helps strengthen the bond between owner and dog.

Since 2000 Scruffts has become very well known and people come from all over the world to compete. Because dogs of mixed breed are often born by accident and a lot more of them are found in kennels rather than homes, all  the money people pay to compete and spectate goes to Kennel Club Charitable Trust.

The competition has four main titles: “ Most Handsome Dog”, “Prettiest Female Dog”, “Child’s Best Friend”, “Best Cross Breed Rescue” and “Golden Oldie”.

In the competition for Child’s Best Friend, the dog is walked out to be judged with its child owner. For the Best Cross Breed Rescue, the dog that has the most heartwarming rescue story is chosen.  

This year’s overall winner is a five-year-old Maltese Shih Tzu cross called Jack who beat 2,500 other competitors to be voted the 2018 champion of Scruffts!

Jack has helped his owner, 16 year old Josie, overcome her anxiety and build her confidence and this touched the heart of the celebrity judge.
